India now has indisputably the world's biggest dairy industry-in terms of milk production; during 2022-23 India produced close to 230.58 million tonnes of milk, close to 50% than the US and more than three times as much as the much-heralded new growth champ, China.
Total milk production in the country is 230.58 million tonnes during 2022-23. India ranks 1st in the world in terms of total milk production. (Source: FAO). The milk production has increased by 3.83% over the previous year (2021-22). The per-capita availably of milk is 459 grams per day. The average yield per animal per day for exotic/crossbred is 8.55 Kg/day/Animal and for indigenous/non-descript is 3.44 Kg/day/ Animal. The milk production from exotic/crossbred cattle has increased by 3.75% and indigenous/ non-descript cattle has increased by 2.63% as compared to previous year.
