Onion is one of the most important commercial vegetables grown in the western, northern as well as southern India. Maharashtra is one of the major onion producing area with around 25% of all production and nearly 70% of all exports from the country. The zone covers the districts of Nasik, Ahmednagar, Pune, Satara and Solapur. In principal approval for setting up of Agri Export Zone was given by Steering Committee. The Project would entail an investment of around Rs. 32.24 crores out of which Rs. 6.13 crores will flow from the Central Government Agencies, Rs. 12.99 crores from State Government Agencies and private sector will put around Rs. 13.12 crores. In the next 5 years it is expected that there would be an export of Rs. 154.49 crores from this zone. Around 3000 farmers are also likely to benefit from the setting up of this zone.
