Tamilnadu ranks high amongst agriculturally progressive states in the country and produces a wide variety of agricultural and horticultural products of good quality. With the aim of promoting the exports of fruits and specially Mango from the region, the state government of Tamil Nadu proposed for setting up of Agri Export Zone. The zone covers the districts of Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, & Tirunelveli. In principal approval for setting up of Agri Export Zone was given by Steering Committee. The Project would entail an investment of around Rs. 24.60 crores out of which Rs. 6.56 crores will flow from the Central Government Agencies, Rs. 4.12 crores from State Government Agencies and private sector will put around Rs. 13.91 crores. In the next 5 years it is expected that there would be an export of Rs. 85.00 crores from this zone. Around 10000 farmers are also likely to benefit from the setting up of this zone.
