Gujarat has been known for producing high quality kesar mangoes. This State is also involved in export of fresh vegetables which are grown in large areas track in Southern Gujarat. To harness the potential in a coordinated manner, an Agri Export Zone has been approved for mangoes and vegetables covering the districts of Ahmedabad, Khaida, Anand, Vadodara, Surat, Navsari and Valsad. A total investment of around Rs. 33.72 crores is expected to take place in the next 5 years. Out of these funds, around Rs. 10 crores will come from Central Government agencies and Rs. 5.34 crores from State Government Agencies. Private sector is likely to contribute the remaining amount. Around Rs. 90 crores worth of mangoes and vegetables are likely to be exported in the next five years. This project will benefit atleast 1500 farmers and will also create direct employment for more than 500 persons.
