AEZ FOR GINGER AND TURMERIC IN ORISSA

Orissa has the largest area of almost 54% under ginger cultivation. Ninty percent of production of ginger is under organic conditions which fetches a higher price in the export markets. Similarly Turmeric is a very important spice in India and it produces nearly the whole world’s crop and also consumes 80% of it. Turmeric has been identified as a potential ingredient in Ayurvedic medicines. In view of the potential of these produces, state proposed for the AEZ. The zone covers the districts of Kandhamal. In principal approval for setting up of Agri Export Zone was given by Steering Committee. An investment of Rs. 6.03 Crores has been envisaged in the zone with private participation of Rs. 3.03 Crores.
